Eclipse to Premiere at Biltmore Park Town Square

Look out all of you night owls because vampires and werewolves are planning to invade Biltmore Park Town Square...at least they will on the big screen. Next Tuesday night, on June 29th, Town Square's retailers and restaurants, along with Regal Biltmore Grande Stadium 15, will welcome the much-anticipated third installment of The Twilight Saga. "Eclipse" will continue to chronicle the main character Bella's adventures in a supernatural world inhabited by a slew of creatures that usually only appear in fairytales, not in real life. But her life is far from ordinary, and these creatures, although usually depicted as villains, quickly become her friends and confidants. Still, evil and deep-seated rivalries await her around the darkest corners, forcing her to make difficult decisions about her safety, future, and friendships.

Hundreds of Twilight fans are expected to show up in order to discover just what it is that Bella will decide to do, and restaurants and retailers are looking forward to joining in on the guessing game. Complete with costumes and rivalries in our own world over whether vampires or werewolves will prevail, movie-goers can expect plenty of shopping and dining specials along with games and activities before watching the movie.

Feast on meals well-suited for heroes and heroines at Travinia Italian Kitchen, Brixx Pizza, and Hickory tavern Grill and Raw Bar, or cool down with an ice cream treat from Cold Stone Creamery while day-dreaming of Robert Pattinson. Town Square Welcomes Relay for Life

This evening, Biltmore Park Town Square will be bright with candlelight, camaraderie, memories, and community as it welcomes Relay for Life. From 6 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., walkers will circle Town Square Boulevard as a part of the fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society. Cancer survivors and those wishing to memorialize loved ones will contribute by placing luminaries along the route to guide strollers through the night, and all are welcome to come offer support, walk, donate, or simply visit with participants.

Over the past few weeks, Town Square's restaurants even joined in by donating part of their proceeds to the American Cancer Society, and visitors are sure to see many Biltmore Park regulars among tonight's teams. Teams for this evening's event have already raised close to $50,000 for this worthy cause, and they are looking forward to celebrating their fundraising efforts.

After the opening ceremony and Survivor's Lap, there will be live entertainment from local groups like the Altamont Theatre, The Business, Jazz the Ripper, and more. Games, music, movies, and other activities will entertain crowds throughout the remainder of the evening before they enjoy an early pancake breakfast at 5 a.m. on Saturday.

Earlier in the night, Biltmore Park Town Square's restaurants and retailers will also be open to help fuel walkers. Consider grabbing a cup of coffee or stocking up on activities and reading supplies at Barnes & Noble, enjoying a meal from Brixx Pizza or roux, or even sending visitors over to the movie theater to catch one of the latest blockbusters while you continue circling Town Square Boulevard. However you choose to participate, the evening is sure to be a fun-filled success. Happy relaying!

Biltmore Park Hosts an Eventful Weekend

For many students in Asheville, today was the final day of school, which means there is plenty of poolside fun, family time, camps, and outdoor adventures to look forward to. This weekend, Biltmore Park Town Square will be a wonderful first stop during your kick off of the first days of summer.

Begin your weekend on Saturday at a book signing at Barnes & Noble. Local author Neil Ragan will be happy to sign your copy of his book Great Waterfalls of North Carolina, and the text is a great place to start when mapping out the season's must-see attractions. The book signing will run from 2 to 4 p.m., leaving plenty of time to take in a movie, enjoy some ice cream from Cold Stone, shop, or dine out at one of Town Square's many restaurants before the free, family-friendly concert presented by local band the Southern Silk Duo. Catch their performance from 7 to 9 p.m. outside of Brixx Pizza and Hickory Tavern Grill and Raw Bar.

On Sunday, there won't be any shortage on festivities either with REI's Active Family Festival. While perusing the gear you'll need during your outdoor summer adventures, you will also have the opportunity to learn about hiking as a family, camp cooking, children's nature programs, and more. All presentations and classes are free, and the event lasts from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

To stay up to date with Biltmore Park's latest events, be sure to check the calendar on the News & Events page. Until then, enjoy your first weekend of the summer in Town Square.

Melissa Markis Opens Her Studio in Town Square

If you've ever desired to show the world your talents, have your favorite moments in life captured, and be treated like royalty for a day, you finally have your chance. Photographer Melissa Markis, who offers a unique "Model for a Day" service, recently opened her doors in Biltmore Park Town Square. Designed to help young girls feel confident and to help foster healthy self-esteem, the portrait sessions capture the beauty and personality of the girls while they enjoy a full day of celebrity-style treatment that includes hair, makeup, and changing outfits. The final product will culminate in a music style video that features their photos. Of course, the adults won't be left out either, as Markis also does other portraits and offers her services for weddings, too.

Markis is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology where she earned her degree in fashion and commercial photography. Prior to moving to the Asheville area, Markis traveled the world as a photojournalist for an international non-profit organization and also worked as a photographer and makeup artist in New York City. She now happily calls the Blue Ridge Mountains home, and works to capture beauty and spontaneity in all of her photos and videos. She does on-site and in studio work and has a portfolio that includes portraits, weddings, and fusion videos.

Town Square is happy to welcome her to the area and is looking forward to being featured in the background in the Model for a Day sessions. The restaurants, retailers, green space, and more offer a unique setting as well as plenty of destination points. So whether a model or not, stop by Biltmore Park Town Square soon to welcome Melissa.
