Harry Potter Premieres at the Regal Biltmore Grande Stadium 15 This past week, there was one young, bespectacled boy who dominated local, national, and international headlines--Harry Potter, of course! While he may not garner the same relentless media attention as politicians, celebrities, and heroes do in our world, this past week, muggles and wizards joined forces to make box office magic for the release of the sixth installment in the film series--Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
Although I gave into the appeal of a restful night's sleep rather than attend the midnight premiere in the breaking hours of Wednesday morning, I did make it to the recenty-opened Regal Biltmore Grande Stadium 15 later in the afteroon. Harry Potter fan or not, it's hard to deny that the new theater does wonders for film-goers' experiences.
I arrived early, expecting a long wait, but I got through the box office line in under a minute. The entrance, which features a welcoming open space that complements the elegant and bright facade, is reminiscent of classic theaters, an aesthetic that seems to have given way to newer but non-descript cement buildings. Adjacent to the theater is 131 Main Restaurant, also a new addition to Biltmore Park Town Square. Even under the heat of a summer evening, restaurant-goers were enjoying the fire pit and comfortable outdoor seating as they sipped on their chilled wine.
I spent a few minutes before the movie to grab a treat from Cold Stone Creamery--Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, which opened last week. The design of Biltmore Park allowed me to get there and back in just a few minutes. Everything there, including national and local retailers, restaurants, a hotel, residences, and offices, are within walking distance of one another, helping visitors and tenants make the most of their time.
The movie was just as good as I had expected, and I don't think I would have enjoyed it more anywhere else. As the only stadium seat movie theater in Asheville, the Regal Biltmore Grande provided a comfortable experience throughout the lengthy two and a half hour film.
If you have yet to watch Harry Potter, or any of the other much-anticipated blockbusters showing in theaters this summer, visit the Regal Biltmore Grande Stadium 15, or just visit Biltmore Park Town Square to explore the new restaurants and businesses that are opening this summer.
Cold Stone Creamery is Now Open
Despite the much needed rain in May and June, July has brought many days of clear skies and high temperatures to Asheville. While some people prefer taking a dip in the pool to cool off, and while others prefer air conditioning, I like to go for something sweeter. For those craving a little indulgence this summer, the newly opened Cold Stone Creamery--Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is the perfect place to find a reprieve from the summer heat while satisfying your sweet tooth.
Located in Biltmore Park Town Square across from the Regal Biltmore Grande Stadium 15, Cold Stone Creamery--Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory offers endless dessert possibilities, and the best part is that you get to make your own recipe. All custom ice cream orders are called "creations," and the customers get to enjoy the role of audience as the Cold Stone crew blends freshly-made ice cream with your choice of mix-ins on their signature frozen granite stone. To make the experience even more entertaining, just give them a tip for their hard work, and you'll be seranaded as a thank you.
Apart from their ice cream, smoothies, shkaes, and cakes, the Cold Stone in Biltmore Park will also serve Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory treats, including candied apples, boxed chocolates, fudge, and more. Summer is a great excuse to let loose, and chocolate is a great way to start.
Whether you are in Asheville enjoying a vacation or you are a local resident in need of a night of fun, Biltmore Park Town Square is your one-stop destination. Grab a bite to eat at Brixx Pizza, where you can taste some local brews; then walk across the street to catch one of the many blockbuster hits opening at the Regal Biltmore Grande this summer, and finish the evening off with your favorite Cold Stone Creamery creation. And don't forget to come by again to visit the new businesses that will be opening soon--including the Hilton Asheville, Barnes & Noble, Travinia Italian Kitchen, and Hickory Tavern.
Asheville City Market South Opens
I don't cook. It's not that I don't know how, but rather it is because I've never really felt inspired to--a microwavable dinner and my couch or a bubble bath usually sound more appealing after the work day. Next week, however, I am planning, for one of the first times in my life, on making a shopping list.
On Wednesday, July 1st, the Asheville City Market South opened in Biltmore Park Town Square. The market, scheduled to take place weekly from 7:30-11:30 a.m., is nothing short of inspiring for an underachieving cook. From booths with colorful and fresh zucchini and summer squash to vendors selling gold brown chive and cheddar biscuits and garnished cupcakes, the new market offers a range of possibilities that promise to make everybody's stomach grumble. Luckily for me, there are plenty of food items that are already prepared, including uniquely flavored pastas and sauces. Of course, the gourmet chefs also have plenty of room for their own creativity when they buy fresh fruits, vegetables, jams, or even a rack of lamb.
If you aren't feeling up for cooking, and a bubble bath is still more your style, the market also features homemade body care products. With organic ingredients and essential oils, the products make luxury and relaxation healthier than ever.
Apart from being healthy and delicious, all of the items at the market are locally grown, which means they spend less time getting from the farm to your table. Also, when you shop at Asheville City Markey South, you support your local economy, farmers and farmland, and the region's agricultural heritage.
Next Wednesday, July 8th, take some time to explore Asheville's newest farmer's market, and while you are there, feel free to walk around Biltmore Park Town Square to see the newest restaurants and retailers.

Going the Extra Mile--Hunt Briggs Shares Tips about Energy Efficiency
With a deadline of just ten weeks, Hunt Briggs, an intern with the Environmental Defense Fund's Climate Corp Fellowship, has been charged with a daunting assignment: analyze and identify opportunities that will reduce Biltmore Park Town Square's carbon footprint. Despite a looming deadline, Briggs is enjoying the program: "I'm just excited that the community is thinking about ways to reduce their carbon footprint," pointing out that it is an ongoing and ever-evolving process. Of course, it has to start somewhere, and Biltmore Park Town Square is a wonderful match.
As a participant in the LEED-ND program, Biltmore Park is already outfitted with low-flow plumbing fixtures, a solar panel hot water system for the Hilton Asheville, EnergyStar appliances in residences, and, of course, the benefit of the walkability and nature conservation inherent in the New Urbanism design. Town Square, however, is eager to continue its efforts towards becoming more efficient and sustainable.
Briggs will focus on three office buildings in Biltmore Park, including Volvo, Netriplex, and One Town Square. He will evaluate their control systems, assess their infrastructure, conduct financial analysis of potential energy-saving investments, and research new technologies. From turning off computers at night to installing solar panels, Briggs points out that every part helps. Of course, he also hopes that people will consider energy usage beyond the workplace. While he is helping businesses produce less waste and reduce bills, there are also things that individuals can do to conserve energy at home. Here are a few of Briggs' tips for reducing energy demands at home:
Crank up the dial! For every degree you raise your thermostat in the summer, you can save 2-3% of cooling energy. In the winter, set the thermostat at the lowest comfortable setting.
Fix air leaks, drafty doors/windows, and leaky insulation. When insulation sags or gains moisture, it stops working.
Heat/cool zones inside of your home. Many people condition the air throughout their homes but spend most of their time in only a few rooms. Close doors and vents!
Lower the temperature on your hot water tank to 120 degrees. Many are factory set much hotter than is necessary.
Replace incandescent light bulbs in fixtures that you use often. You can move them to fixtures that you use infrequently in areas such as basements and workshops.
Replace older appliances with EnergyStar rated appliances. Usually, the best time to upgrade an appliance is at the end of its useful life, but some devices are so wasteful that it would be wiser to replace them immediately.
Turn off lights, televisions, computers, and other appliances that you are not using. Often this simply involves learning new habits, but occupany sensor or timers can simplify the task.
