We expect restaurants to have good food; that is part of why we love to spend our evenings dining out. Restaurants, however, do not earn great reputations for their menus alone. Dinner, or any meal of the day for that matter, is an experience, and 131 Main Restaurant has perfected the combination of great cuisine, an engaging atmosphere, and exceptionally friendly service.
On Tuesday, June 2nd, 131 Main welcomed more than 250 patrons to its new location in Biltmore Park Town Square, its first Western North Carolina locale. The restaurant has a unique appeal to all senses, and I was immediately impressed by the warm decor when I arrived to the cocktail event before their opening night. Every detail, from the art on the walls to the imaginative light fixtures, is modern and elegant. The interior layout and design boast high ceilings with lowered overhangs that allow for an intimate atmosphere, and the open kitchen reflects the restaurant's pride in their fresh ingredients. Guests enjoyed a wide sampling of their menu, which included the unforgettable roasted vegetable bruschetta, delectable Maryland style crab cakes with creoles whole grain mustard sauce, and braised short ribs–slow-cooked and served over low country white cheddar grits. These dishes and more will be featured items on the menu.
Throughout the evening, attendees enjoyed the bar, where floor to ceiling windows give restaurant-goers a scenic view of Biltmore Park Town Square. The outdoor porch, complete with Adirondack chairs, was glowing as the stylish fire pit helped extend the indoor atmosphere beyond the main seating area.
The new restaurant is unique to the Asheville culinary scene. The quality of ingredients, outstanding service, and the impressive pairing of great food with great wine are all qualities that promise to make 131 Main Restaurant a new favorite. Its location within Biltmore Park–adjacent to the Regal Biltmore Grande Stadium 15–also makes it an ideal stop for weekend outings and special occasions.
