Enjoy Asheville’s Favorite Pastimes in Town Square this Weekend

December 16, 2010

If you missed Biltmore Park Town Square's Fall Fest last weekend, don't worry because there are still plenty of activities for you to enjoy, and they all showcase two of Asheville's favorite pastimes: the arts and the outdoors.

This weekend, the much-anticipated grand opening for the cooperative Echo Gallery is finally here to celebrate the arrival of six River District Artists to Town Square. This showcase of quality, local talent is a wonderful opportunity for South Asheville, and the opening reception will give visitors, whether art experts or novices, a chance to meet the people behind the craft and learn more about their work.

With light hors d'oeuvres and drinks catered by Roux, the Hilton Asheville's onsite restaurant, the event will have a fun and local focus while featuring world-class art. It is a pleasure for Town Square to host Anna Koloseike, Barbara Fisher, Susan Webb Lee, Genie Maples, Laurie McCarrier, and Lori Therault. Their work is sure to make an impression on visitors as they peruse the textiles, pottery, paintings, sculptures, and photography. And while each artist approaches their work with a different perspective and medium, all of the pieces complement one another in their displays of craftsmanship and skill. The reception is on October 23rd from 6-9 p.m.

And the art opening isn't the only event in Biltmore Park this weekend. From 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday and from 11 a.m.-5p.m. on Sunday, come out to REI in Town Square to celebrate Asheville's love of the outdoors at the Subaru Frontcountry Tour. Explore product vendors like The North Face, Coleman, Mountain House, and more, or learn about how to become a better environmental steward during a demonstration. You can also sample some food that is well-suited to your outdoor adventure needs. All of the festivities will be held in REI's parking lot. See you this weekend at Biltmore Park Town Square.
