Girls on the Run 5k to Be Held in Town Square

Biltmore Park Town Square is humming with life. Patio diners are soaking in the rays over lunch; strollers are enjoying shopping along the pedestrian-friendly streets; new retailers are moving in; and special events like Concerts in the Park are welcoming new and old visitors.

Next weekend will be no different because Biltmore Park Town Square will welcome the Western North Carolina chapter of Girls on the Run. Founded in 1996, Girls on the Run today is a large non-profit organization, serving more than 150 cities across North America and works to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. The program combines physical training for a 5k race, life skills development, and healthy living skills and is a collaboration between participants, their parents, schools, volunteers, and communities.

On Saturday, May 22nd, the girls will have the opportunity to demonstrate how much they have learned when they run in the New Balance Girls on the Run 5k in Biltmore Park Town Square. All runners are welcome to participate, including men and boys, to help support the girls and the program. The race will begin at 10 a.m. and the festivities will continue all day as REI offers participants a 15% discount on one full-price item. The restaurants in Town Square are also eager to welcome runners and their families for a post-race celebratory lunch, and Saturday will also be a wonderful opportunity to explore the fitness opportunities at the state-of-the-art Reuter Family YMCA.

So whether running in the 5k or simply cheering on the girls, consider stopping by Biltmore Park to support this worthy cause. To learn more about Girls on the Run and how you can get involved, visit www.gotrwnc.org.
